- information about social care services provided by Oxfordshire County Council, an explanation of a carer’s assessment and what sorts of services or other options may be available.
Carer's assessment
If caring has a major impact on your life, you can talk to someone in Oxfordshire County Council's Social and Community Services about the help and support you may need. This is called a carer’s assessment.

Emergency Carers' Support Service
Download information about the Emergency Carers' Support Service (.pdf format, 400Kb) – a free Oxfordshire service for carers of adults who register with them.
Support services
A range of support services is available for carers in Oxfordshire. Some of them are listed below:
- Carers' centres: your local carers' centre can offer you a range of support services and advice for carers of adults, parent carers and young carers.
- Rethink Carer Support Service: carers of adults of working age with mental illness may benefit from specialist support. Please see www.rethink.org
- Age UK (formerly called Age Concern) whose Oxfordshire headquarters is based in Abingdon, is another voluntary agency which provides a range of help and support for the county. See the website.
- Oxfordshire Family Information Service (OFS) can provide a broad range of information, signposting and support for parents and for carers of disabled children. Please see www.oxonfis.org.uk .link.
- Occupational therapy: if the person you are caring for has any kind of mobility difficulties please visit www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/otequipment link where you will find information about support, services and equipment, some of which can be purchased privately.
- Buying your own services: if you are trying to source home carers privately, a list of local providers is available at www.ukhca.co.uk.
