What do we do?
We help carers with:
- information
- help with practical tasks (such as filling in benefit forms)
- support at difficult times
- advocacy (we can support carers who have been refused benefits or services and will attend tribunals and case conferences to support carers)
Outreach workers will visit carers at home or another suitable location
Time for Carers Scheme
Under the Time for Carers scheme we can offer:
- regular coach outings for carers to have a break or for both carer and cared for to get out
- small items which support the caring role
- short amounts of care for the person looked after, to enable the carer to go out
Courses for carers
We organise courses in aspects of a carer’s everyday life such as stress management, anger management, benefits and enduring power of attorney. Relief care and transport can be offered to support the other person while the carer undertakes this training.
Young carers
Young people under the age of 19 years who are looking after, or helping to look after, a member of their family can receive support from our Young Carers workers, Mich and Sarah. We offer trips and outings on a monthly basis to enable the young people to have a break and some fun with other young carers.
Young carers, parents or teachers who want to contact the Young Carers Workers can phone the Carers' Centre during office hours.
Outside office hours or during the weekend, ring Young Carers Messageline on 01235 512198. Leave a first name a contact number and the time you would like to be called, and Mich or Sarah will call back the next time the office is open.
